ThemeForest – Ready Made Web Templates

ThemeForest.net is a site selling ready-made, customizable Web templates for WordPress, Blogger, Joomla, and others.  I almost said it’s “another site selling…” but refrained once I’d looked the place over.  Let me explain.

First, ThemeForest is well-built and easy to navigate–which means it beats out 90% of the other “site theme template” sites out there.  Templates are organized by platform (plain HTML, WordPress, etc.) and then by category for theme (business, fun, blog, and so forth).  This makes it easy to find what you’re looking for.

Prices are extremely reasonable with the lowest being $5 and the average being about $25.  The selection is a little bit thin in some categories, but robust enough in most to fit most people’s needs.  They’re all definitely professional-grade layouts and there aren’t so many of them available that you end up wasting half your day hunting through to make sure you’ve seen everything before you decide.

For the designer/author who builds templates, the commissions are generous (40%, with an appreciation special this month of 70%).  That’s a pretty good payoff for a template consignment warehouse like this.

ThemeForest also features forums for questions, plug-ins (or paste-ins, if you will) for JavaScript, PHP, and other additions to current sites.  Most of the site’s aspects are user-driven.  The templates for sale, for instance, are put up by site users who want to sell their work while review and approval of those templates is largely done by “senior users,” chosen for their continual use of and helpfulness on the site.

ThemeForest is owned by Envato, as part of their Envato Marketplaces aggregation of digital goods websites.  The site is run by Jeffrey Way, one of the company’s visionaries.  Envato is based in Australia.

Definitely worth a look and a great place to get started when you’re ready to build your next website or upgrade your current one.  ThemeForest is easy to use, reasonably priced (free to browse), and won’t waste your time like most of those “free WordPress theme” sites do.  They are even having a birthday bash special currently, where you can get $300 of files for just $20!
